Adult Education and Family Literacy Month

September 2026 · Louisiana

Every September, the country sets aside a week to recognize adult education and family literacy. In Louisiana, we’re taking a month.

More than 466,000 Louisiana adults don’t hold a high school diploma. Roughly 25,000 to 30,000 of them are enrolled in adult education programs in any given year. The gap between those two numbers is the reason this month exists.

Adult Education and Family Literacy Month is when Louisiana’s programs, partners, and learners make that work visible — to neighbors, employers, agencies, and elected officials who may not know it’s happening in their own parish.
