Why Join?
Adult education in Louisiana is often delivered by people working alone — one instructor in a building, one coordinator covering a parish, one advisor who knows every learner by name. LAPCAE is what connects them.
For fifty years, this association has brought the field together for professional development, recognition, and the statewide conversations that shape adult education in Louisiana. One membership connects you to a network across all 64 parishes — and to the national field through COABE.
What Membership Includes
From LAPCAE
The annual conference. Three days of professional development each fall, built by and for Louisiana practitioners, closing with the Awards Luncheon.
The Spring Professional Development & Awareness Day. A free one-day event at the State Capitol — concurrent sessions plus time in the Rotunda. Free to members.
Awards and recognition. Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Support Person of the Year, and Student of the Year — nominated by members, selected by the Awards Committee, presented at the conference.
Classroom Learning Grants. Funding for materials, projects, or technology in your program.
Continuing Education Scholarships. Support for adult educators pursuing their own coursework or credentials.
A voice on the board. Every member has a regional representative, elected by the members in that region.
From COABE
Every LAPCAE member is automatically also a member of COABE.
Professional development — monthly webinars with national presenters.
The COABE Journal — peer-reviewed research, free quarterly as an e-publication, discounted in print.
The national conference — with a members-only registration discount, and mini grants funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to help defray costs.
National awards — recognition for outstanding educators, administrators, and adult learners.
Educate and Elevate — COABE’s campaign toolkit for explaining adult education to the public, to funders, and to elected officials.
Adult educator resources — lesson plans, apps, and materials shared across the field.
Who Should Join?
People who teach adults. Instructors and instructional aides in adult basic education, high school equivalency, and English language programs — in community colleges, technical colleges, literacy councils, correctional facilities, and community-based organizations.
People who run the programs. Directors, coordinators, advisors, navigators, transition specialists, data and accountability staff, and professional development coordinators.
People whose work brings them the same population. If you administer Medicaid or SNAP work requirements, run TANF services, staff a workforce board, manage reentry or housing programs, work in a public library, or hire from this labor pool — the adults you are trying to move into work are often the adults in these classrooms. LAPCAE is where those two sides of the problem meet.
Adult learners themselves, and anyone who believes it’s not too late.

Follow these EASY steps:
- Click the Registration button and follow the JotForm instructions.
- Choose Individual or Institutional Membership and complete requested information. (Institutional Membership requires a spreadsheet that is accessible from the JotForm).
- Invoice and Copy of Registration comes directly to the inbox of the contact person from JotForm.
- Pay according to your preference as indicated on the Registration Form and Invoice.

1. Open the registration form and follow the instructions.
2. Choose Individual or Institutional membership. Institutional membership requires a spreadsheet of covered staff. The spreadsheet opens in view-only mode — download and save it to your computer first, then upload the saved copy.
3. Your invoice and a copy of your registration arrive by email from JotForm. Check your spam folder if you do not see them within about thirty minutes.
4. Pay by the method indicated on the registration form and invoice.

Membership Rates
Membership runs from September 1 through August 31. Individual membership is $50. Programs that register 11 or more staff members pay a flat group rate—the more people you cover, the less it costs per person.
Every person covered by an institutional membership is a full member — with COABE membership, award eligibility, grant and scholarship eligibility, and a vote in regional elections.
2025–26 memberships expired on September 1, 2026. Renewing keeps both your LAPCAE and COABE memberships active.
